1% Better Volleyball Journal

In the pursuit of volleyball excellence, athletes must recognize that the road to success is paved with deliberate and purposeful practice to build in-game confidence. This is the concept of becoming 1% better. Your goal as an athlete is to become 1% better today than you were yesterday. This is a mindset that can be developed.

Practicing with a purpose involves more than just going through the motions. It requires a focused and systematic approach to honing your skills and abilities. By having a purpose in practice, you are allowing yourself the opportunity to practice on specific skills or tasks to make yourself a better athlete and to help enhance your performance.

Use this journal as a tool to first help you explore the concepts of practicing with a purpose and emphasize the significance of focusing on the process to become a better volleyball player. Then you will use the same techniques and apply them to your game performances.

1% Better Volleyball Journal will help your athlete:
  • Set and Defines Goals.

  • Choose an Affirmation

  • Assess their Physical and Tactical Sports Skills

  • Monitor their Emotions.

  • Build Confidence.

  • Plus much more...

Why Use this Journal?

As an elite mindset sports performance coach, one of the most common questions I get is, “How can my child compete with confidence?”

Your child must develop the mindset skill sets necessary to master the mental aspects of the game if you want them to compete with confidence.

Athletes who use the skill of journaling allow themselves to reflect on their practices and game performances without judgement.

When athletes can look at themselves in a non-judgmental way, it opens their eyes to picking out what they did well in a game and not immediately picking out the negatives.

I've seen many situations where athletes come out of their performance and begin to pick apart their game. I hear statements like

"Yeah, I got 10 points, BUT..." Then they pick out the negatives.

If all your athlete does is pick out the negatives, they're always going to be stuck in your development.

Athletes that journal enhance their development because it allows them to write their goals down and reflect on their past achievements, which helps maintain motivation and provides purpose for their training.

Help your athlete to begin the skill of journaling that will help them not only in their sports endeavors but will also set the path to personal growth and success.

Using the Digital Version

This digital version of the 1% Better Volleyball Journal allows the athlete to print out as many pages as they need. There are 5 practice sheets and 5 game sheets included in this PDF format.

Print out the number of copies that you need and get yourself a folder or notebook where the athlete can keep their completed journals.

After each month, take a look at your journals and see if there are patterns in your mental game that you can notice from the journals that are either positively or negatively affecting your performance. Then make the necessary changes, if needed.

Parents, the questions that are in this journal are excellent questions to speak about with your athlete in a non-judgmental way, and it allows your athlete to take control of their development and ownership of their performance. Help your athlete to expand on their responses, but allow your athlete to write and express what they are feeling.

Parents, your role is to give support and guidance on how your athlete is viewing their game.
