The Resilient Athlete

15 Day Guide To Unleash Your Full Athletic Potential

Over the course of my coaching career, I have seen athletes struggle to find themselves on the playing field. They lose confidence by getting down on themselves after making a mistake, their focus is gone or they are not able to perform in competition like they do in practice. They get frustrated when learning news skills that might be hard, so they either give up or quit. Can you relate to this?. This is total understandable because athletes are not taught HOW to overcome their emotion or feeling during performance. I am here to tell you, that you or your athletic child, CAN overcome these negative thoughts and feelings that are sabotaging your performance. You CAN develop a champion’s mindset that will help lead you to athletic success.

The goal of “The Resilient Athlete” mental coaching program is to help athletes learn to understand how their thoughts plus their emotional responses affects their performance and understand how by applying simple mental skills training techniques in their game, the athletes can exhibit better mental control to lead them to more consistent play.

Your goal as the athlete should you choose to accept it is to understand how your emotional state affects your performance and then apply mental performance skills and strategies to positively affect your behavior to help enhance your athletic performance and take you game to a new level.

In order to perform at a top level, there are 3 mental pillars the athletes need to develop so they can climb the ladder of athletic success. These pillars include having an: Elite Mindset, Elite Concentration and Elite Confidence. Athletes that are able to compete using the 3 mental pillars are able to perform ahead of their competition and enjoy competing.

To understand how mental performance techniques work, I break down each pillar into (3) phases and then within each phase there are (4) subgroups . Think of each phase as the "main skill" and then think of each subgroup as a "skill-set". So the athlete will be learning a skill-set in order to master the main skill.

Think of this as a skill development in a sport. Let's say an athlete want to learn the skill of a basketball dribble. The skill-set would include: dribbling with your dominant hand, then you progress to your non-dominant hand, to cross-cross and finally between your legs. These would be the (4) skill-sets to learn the skill of dribbling a basketball.

To master Pillar #1- the Elite Mindset skill, the athlete is going to learn and practice the skill-set of:

What is an athletic mindset?

Learning what are controllable's and non-controllable's?

Know your traffic lights

Understanding self-control

For Pillar #2 -the Elite Concentration skill, the athlete is going to learn and practice the skill-set of:

Focus and Concentration

Routines

Understanding the difference between process and outcome goals

Getting in a "flow" state

Finally Pillar #3, in order to have Elite Confidence, the athletes is going to learn and practice the skill-set of:

How to develop confidence

Self-talk and body language

Focusing on Breathing

Using your "Mind's Eye"-Visualization

Ken Ravizza, a pioneer in the field of sports psychology, believed “you need to be in control of yourself, before you can control your performance”. When the athlete is able to understand and apply each skill-set into their competition, they will be on their way to becoming a "resilient athlete" thus on a path to achieving athletic success.

This online curriculum is a self guided course where the athlete will have access to videos, text readings, workbook and journal in order help them develop the 3 Mental Pillars of athletic performance. After each assignment, I ask the athlete to email me their responses so I can stay engaged in their progress. If your athlete is serious about their athletic development then mental training skill is necessary to help them get to that next level of their development. The athlete will have access to email support for any questions they might have.

At the conclusion of the program, if the athlete needs or wants a deeper understanding into mental sports performance training I am available for one on one coaching sessions. The coaching sessions will be weekly virtual 45 minute one-on-one coaching sessions with Mental Sports Performance Coach Brian McSparron, to give the athlete a deeper understanding of the topics while keeping the athlete motivated and accountable. You can email me for more information regard the coaching sessions at brian@sspmentalcoaching.com During the coaching sessions, I will be there to support the athlete in their struggles and congratulate them on their successes.
